Yeah, yeah, yeah, we've read all the reports. Truth is, we make ourselves fat. Of course, industry couldn't be more helpful. What with their adding sugar to everything so food plays tricks on us: Cravings anyone? Feeling hungry when maybe you're not really hungry? Digging that dopamine high?

It's damn hard to not get fat these days. We're hardwired to eat all food available and to store fat. Otherwise our DNA wouldn't have survived eons of scarcity. But today's survival skill is surviving abundance. With processed foods--I mean ingestible entertainment--formulated, packaged and marketed to bypass all reason, it takes all the logic you can muster to override your neuro-chemical responses driving you to Dunkin' Donuts at 3am...

Kelly Brownell at Yale's Rudd Center says it takes "motivation" and a "willingness" to control these impulses and make healthful lifestyle choices instead. I agree. When it's "no thanks" as tiramisu is offered... or the face of every runner along the path...I'm pretty sure I'm witnessing pure determination.

Were you at a healthy weight when you hit your twenties? Are you still at about the same weight? You should be. (Weight lifters and the like get a free pass on this.) Whether it's your acid wash jeans, Bugle Boys, or whatever you wore the first night you got drunk (legally), those clothes should still fit--your body if not your current sense of style.

America is a collective 5 Billion pounds overweight, the average adult is 23 pounds overweight, and most couples put on 25 to 30 pounds after the first few years of marriage.

If you have the determination, motivation and willingness, those numbers don't have to describe you. As for me, I'm celebrating the 5th Annual Wedding Gown Challenge today. More than 12 years and 2 children later, the gown still fits, Ba-bee..!

I'm not happy!

every single one of us has been depressed, sad, hurt, hopeless...
whether you are sad over a relationship, the lack of a relationship, no job, not the job you want, no money, huge bills, you're frustrated with your life, your family...

You should not be happy!

This probably sounds weird coming from me...who seems eternally happy...so happy, that some people have accused me of being fake! They couldn't figure out how someone could be happy all the time!
And the truth is, I'm not happy all the time. Happiness is based on some thing or event, that MAKES you FEEL happy. (It makes me happy when someone hugs me or says something nice to me....those are my personal examples....)...but JOY is really what I have. Joy is what's in your heart no matter what is going on around you...
I have been through some less than wonderful things in my life, but I have been joyful during these...I've been able to smile, laugh, and be joyfully "happy" during these times...

Not a lot of people have joy in their hearts...and happiness is too wishy-washy to depend on...
If someone doesn't make us happy, we're sad, if nothing exciting or hopeful happens, we're sad...if someone hurts our feelings, we're sad...but JOY is something that we experience in our hearts...that isn't dependent on outside circumstances...

God has put joy in my heart...and I have to remember to ask him for more joy sometimes. People ask me, "how are you so happy?"....And I am not the type to blast people with "religious talk", I don't consider myself to be "religious", but I do consider myself to have a relationship with God, and to be a follower of Jesus. If you don't agree with me, that's totally fine....if you do, that's awesome...I just wanted the share the reason that I have joy in my life.

Here's one thing that I heard yesterday, that was so great to let sink into my heart.

Be joyful always; pray continually; give thanks in all circumstances, for this is God's will for you in Christ Jesus

Oscar Loreto, who's in the picture above...and who filmed and edited the video below, was born without hands and the lower portion of his left leg. He is a hero and inspiration...with so many things, seeming to say, "you can't"...he's made it in the world saying, "I can!"....

We've all felt like the road before us is too hard, and I've made small things seem hugely, impossible, then I listen as Oscar tells me, it can take him up to 15 minutes just to tie his shoe, I realize how small my thinking has been. He's accomplished so much, without even thinking that it would be hard, or "he can't". Oscar is kind, funny, has an captivating personality, and a great laugh...and his story will move you heart into a new level of hope! Thank you Oscar!

when you feel you can't.....

(This is my new friend, Oscar, skating. But what you may not see in this photo, is that he doesn't have a left foot to put on the board, and he is missing what we take for granted everyday, both of our hands!)
how many times a day do you grab things with your hands a day? Pulling the blankets off you in the morning...brushing your teeth...turning the doorknob in your room....and the list goes on.....

Oscar was born without his hands, and a left foot and lower portion of his leg.....but what he can do with determination in his mind...won't stop him from anything...even if it means some mornings it takes him 15 minutes to tie the laces on his shoe...

I had the most amazing interview with Oscar...his story sets every thought that tells you, "it's too hard or impossible"....free to fly out the door and fills you with the hope that....in this life, there may be obstacles....but NOTHING...., no disability of your body or disability in your thinking, needs to ever stop you from doing what you were created to do!

I did an interview with Oscar (just wait...he's an incredible, inspiring, and sweet human being!), and with my good friend, Ian Ruhter , who has been working on his art & inspiration project, called ENABLED...which shows your heart and mind...the incredible stories of some (what society calls "disabled") of the most enabled and inspiring people.

These people were born with missing limbs, went through horrific accidents, or suffered illnesses that took away their limbs....but they have done more than the average person...without waivering!

Ian is an amazing photographer, that shoots for world famous brands...he has devoted his heart and energy to this project (to bring hope, awareness, and inspiration to a world that's in need of a little "enabling of your dreams"). He has poured his own saving into this, and is ready to show you this amazing story of hope...

People will forget what you said, forget what you did.... but they will always remember, how you made them FEEL!

Today, and everyday..try to make someone feel special, loved, beautiful, or even amazing. Each day is too precious to let it slip by just living in our own selfish little world.

More people should smile, hold doors open for people, say thank you and please...and tell people to have a "great day!"...

I watched my friend, Jamesa, shake someone's hand...she shook their hand like normal, then clasped her other hand on top of theirs...as if to "hug" their hand. The hand "shakee", you could tell, felt closer to her, instantly!

Everyone could use a hug, a pat on the back, a better handshake...even a wave hello!

Let's be on a mission to make people "feel" better, by just a few, free things we can take the time to do today!

I am very excited...!!! After I posted a blog about Stephanie Nielson, of (nieniedialogues.com),
I got an email from a wonderful girl named, Kimberly, that said it was mentioned in a prayer, and that she was moved to want to donate to me, her round trip tickets to go meet Stephanie!!! She is going to try to contact her!!! I am so excited...I had goosebumps and my heart was moved to tears as I read her email! I can't wait to hear what happens!!!!
(by the way...the hands in the photo are Stephanie and her husband's, in their special "burn gloves", which they wear daily.)
